I am officially the luckiest traveller in the world. The whole plane is packed apart from my row. 3 lovely empty seats for the next 9 or 10 hours. I’ll be able to do some work, right after I stop drooling at the view from my window. The sun over Bangkok is reflected in the million small lakes, ponds and what looks like fields of water. (pictures 336 and 340 here).

Very appropriately, the new album, Soul by Seal kicks in. And the dinner isn’t bad at all. I just read on the in-flight magazine that alcohol affects you far more when flying especially when you’re on the higher altitude intercontinental flights, so I think I’ll stay away from booze on the flights. I don’t think I could deal with the combination of jetlag and a hangover – a nasty cocktail if ever I heard one.
And just as the sun sets, the staff generously throws marshmallows into my Cadbury’s hot chocolate and serves it right after the ice-cream. Seriously…ice-cream on board. Last time I got complimentary ice-cream was during the Sex and the City Premiere. It wasn’t the most appropriate foodstuff for the crowd there which were mostly skinny girls who looked like they might only pick at the finest gourmet food. Ice-cream was all wrong that night but here and now it’s fine.
Anyway, I know I am going to sound like I’m writing a commercial for Qantas airlines, but I am just so impressed with the care….and maybe the fact I feel like a VIP with my 3 empty seats. Pure bliss. The view is impressive. I wonder which would be the best flight view ever from a pilot’s point of view. I guess they see the best of all views. I personally prefer the high viewing points, so I can only imagine how Rio de Janeiro, New York, Hong Kong and Sydney would look from the cockpit. I agree you still have a beautiful view from wherever you are seated, but nothing compares to the front. I must ask a pilot some day. Which would be the most beautiful route to fly? Might be Bangkok- Sydney which I am on. This reminds me of my mother who took 200 pictures on the plane from Rio to Lima and they were mainly all pictures of clouds and the Andes. She still dedicated an album on Facebook to that trip though.
See you in Sydney!!
P.S Just thought you might like this (pssst- Antarctica) . Awesome view indeed.
